What  do you make of this?  I haven't found John's death but I see this for 1821...  Is court for Insolvent Debtors akin to Probate Court?

That sounds spot on, a good find.
Maybe he isn't dead in 1841, maybe living seperately to wife and son.

Speaking off the top of my head Probate and Insolvent debtors are not the same.
Insolvent debtors would be owing money to people due to a business failure and Probate is the legal process of administering the estate of a deceased person by resolving all claims and distributing the deceased person's property under the valid will.
