What exactly is it you are wanting to know? Do you have him in census records or do you want to move back with his parents?
I took a quick look in the 1841 census using the spelling Steel and there were three in Devon. The  one closest to a 1820 birth was born c1811 and was residing Saint Mary Street, East Stonehouse.
He was with his wife Mary 30 and children Susan 5, Elizabeth 2.
Thomas and Mary not born in County, both children were.
Thomas was in the Army, no other info.
Bracketed in with Thomas' household is an Elizabeth Sinclair, 30, Dressmaker, not born in county.

Scrap this one. See later post.

I rather think you want to move back with this bloke. I take it he is the accountant with his mother Ann in 1851 and a saw and bone mill owner with a much younger wife in 1861?
I have tried to follow the one I found in 1841 in the 1851 census to eliminate him form the picture but haven't found him so far.
Lots of questions, no answers. :)

thx for reply
I have seen that 1841 record but it doesn't match with my more certain info.  1861 Census:  Colleton Place, Exeter has Thomas Steel, Charlotte Steel and a baby Florence Steel.  His birthplace is listed as Stonehouse, Devon and his age is 41.  Family lore has him as a Merchant but I can't find much beyond a few Directory listings 1857-1861.  I am seeking his parents and/or ancestral line.  I know that Charlotte left England with three daughters (Florence, Alice and Ada) and made her way to NW Florida (Pensacola) approx. 1880.  I am looking for anything to trace the transit as well.

Hi

At St George's Church, East Stonehouse there is a Baptism of a Thomas Steel on 2 December 1818. He was a son of John and Ann Steel of Stonehouse. John was a "Boot Maker".

Hope this helps...

That sounds like the one I found in 1851 with his mother Ann.

I haven't been able to find a record of Charlotte's travels as yet.
Do you have the 1851 census record?
Here they are in 1841
HO107 piece 268 folio 15 page 23 Book 1.
St. Sidwell Exeter City
Ho(a?)ppy Place.
Ann Steel 60 Independant means
Thomas Steel 24 Accountant
Both born in County.

So John the father is already dead.
