Hello Angela

Could you please look up this Irish marriage?  Samuel Rainey + Mary Brown m. July 22, 1845 Dromarrouh (Dromara) Co. Down. I suspect it might be a Catholic marriage as their daughter married in Catholic Church in Scotland. Info is from a son's birth certificate. Would love to know the Church.

Hi Angela,

My children's paternal relative, John PHILP, tenant farmer of Bankhead Dalgety Fife, was arrested for forgery and uttering in December 1847 and imprisoned in Dunfermline.  At the Perth Sessions in April 1848, John was convicted and sentenced to 7 years transportation.

There was an unsuccessful petition to the Home Secretary in December 1848 - signed by almost all the worthies and gentry of West Fife (about 150 persons including the local landowner, the local judge, the local minister, etc, etc but notably with the exception of his paternal uncle - his late father's brother - John PHILP of Kelty, Beath about whom I have my own suspicions) - and a further (successful) petition by 'convict' John's wife (Margaret MUIR of Barone Park, Rothesay, Bute) after which 'convict' John was pardoned in April 1850 just before he was to be shipped off from the hulks in Portsmouth to Tasmania.

Subsequently, 'convict' John and his family sailed free to Melbourne, Victoria where John became a successful businessman (!).

I have much information from the NAS (copies of the precognition etc etc - far from cheap).

But I feel sure that the whole business must have been quite a scandal at the time and would be most grateful if anything could be found in the local newspapers.

Hi Fifer,

You're generous offer is to good to resist lol!

Can you help me with my Grandfather's burial & / or inquest details or even newspaper details?

Alfred James HIBBARD died 10/02/1937 aged 41 yrs @ West Fife Hospital.  Alfred was a Marine Stoker and I assume he would have been from one of the ships docked at the time as is home was in Hampshire.

Thank you - appreciate your help.

Hello there,
wondered if you could help with where I am stuck.  Trying to identify great grandmother and rest of my ancestry from there.  Jane Kirkpatrick, mother to my Grandad, John "Jack" Kirkpatrick.  John was born 6 April 1912, Eastern District, Hospital Glasgow, Dennistown District.

Trying to identify his mother and so on....
Tried Scotsland people, with no luck yet.
My big problem is that I lost John's birth cert, I am going off of my notes.

Found an old post, here is a little more...

Looking for a lookup.  Jane Kirpatrick, domestic Servant, gave birth to my grandad, John Kirkpatrick April 6, 1912.  Jane gave address of Domicil, 18 Anderson Street, Springburn, Glasgow.  Dennistown District.  Sorry do not know her age.

They had children Elizabeth born 1813, Mary Show born 1815, Joan born 1817, Lydia born 1819 Jamima born 1822, Thomas born 1823 and Robina born 1826.

My line descends through Robina Mitchel who married Patrick Murphy in 1841 Glasgow Scotland. Could you check for their marriage?

Hi Angela,

Just noticed you have access to Irish Marriages, could you do a lookup for me please? I'm looking for a Marriage in 1845 or thereabouts between these two persons:

JAMES HENRY/HENDRIE/ HENDRY, BORN C1821-3.

AND

AGNES GREEN, DOB UNKNOWN.

I haven't a clue as to POBs, only a reference in a 1874 Death Record of James Hendrie with Agnes Green as his first wife, James is recorded as a "Widower" in an 1851 Census here in Ayrshire, Scotland, with a son Thomas born 1845, so I'm hoping there may be a Marr/Cert for this year.

Thank you in advance for taking the trouble to help me,

Slainte!

Jim.
