Hi Osprey,

I suppose I was hoping to find the  Price family listed as living at 57 High Street Aberdare in 1891 or 1901, where DJP lived prior to his marriage in 1899 and hopefully a Tasker family in the same road too!

I can't remember which site I looked on but I searched by road and it listed house no's and family name, but none where mine!
As you say I may have been out by a decade!

May I also ask which is the best way to search for a trade?

Many thanks
Stella

I think it's only the 1881 you can search by occupation on Ancestry and Findmy past, but other providers may have indexed that field in other years. The problem with something like 'brake proprietor' is that it could turn up in a different form. It could include carriage or cab or car or similar. David senior may have had a different occupation in 1891. He may have died before the 1901. Just because it doesn't say deceased on a cert doesn't mean he is still alive.

The David with father David a farmer in the Hay registration district in 1881 is still with his parents in 1901.

Hi Stella, as promised I had another look at this - it seems that Osprey has you on the right track now!

You ask why siblings can't be found on the census with the family that you've identified - I get the impression that you have some names in mind.  It would help us immensely if you could tell us their names, if that's the case.

Another thing occurs - you are looking for David James PRICE and Elizabeth Ann but bear in mind that people often didn't use their full names, especially if they were in service or boarding somewhere - the Head of household probably doesn't know their full names!  Also look for variations on names like Elizabeth - there are a few of those!

Kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

this could be the family in 1881

St Peters Wells, Peterchurch, Herefordshire RG11/2596 folio 69 pg 9
David Price head mar 27 labourer b. Herefordshire, Kington
Mary wife 22 b. Peterchurch
David son 3 b. Old Radnor

birth reg
David Price march qtr 1878 Kington vol 6a pg 564

possible marriage
David Price march qtr 1877 Kington vol 6a pg 739 with Mary Jane James on the same page

think you'd need to get both marriage certs for David senior to compare details of his father to be sure as well as David's birth cert.

just had a look at the 1911, david senior is still at the same address in Cardiff Road and birthplace seems to match that in 1881.

Hi Osprey and Arranroots,

The other names that have been suggested are James/Jim or Jimmy, Billy/Bill/or William, Ivor, May and Tite as well as Morgan and Enoch- my link. Two other children but  names unkown.  Tite seems a really unusual name to me and I don't know what else it could stand for!?

The witnesses were an Enoch Tasker - her brother and a Benjamin Evans-?

Well thanks an awful lot, I will order certs, as I need to rule in or out as case may be as you have been very kind and given me so much to go on! :)

Kind regards
Stella
