1881 Census help look up for David James Price
« on: Tuesday 06 April 10 22:50 BST (UK) »
Hello again,

Looking to find more details on siblings and parents of David James Price via the census, also his wife. Not having much luck on FindMyPast free trial. Or 1881 census ???
I have his marriage cert to Elizabeth Ann Tasker in 1899.
He was age 22, and a coal miner, address 57 High Street Aberdare
She was age 21, address 20 High Street Aberdare
His father was David Price, a brake proprietor .
Her father was Rees Tasker, a moulder in Iron Foundary.

I have searched under addresses in 1881 and neither show either family  ???

Previous requests have come close with Davids birth reg as 3Q 1876 Hay 11b 142, though I haven't yet ordered cert.

Can anyone find any other census info on him or his father?

Many Thanks
Stella

You already have candidate census from previous requests.

Can you spot his father by occupation in 1901 for instance?
how about This man & his wife (& kids) in the 1911 census? What are the details for that?
need a bit more to help you progress really.

Hi,
Yes some info from 1901 census showing 3 children, James, Morgan and Enoch. Though I believe there to be 7-9 in all.
I have copied all the info I have.

Children born to PRICE/TASKER in the Merthyr Tydfil district 1911-1925:

James H. PRICE, 1Q 1912 MT 11a 1580
Morgan PRICE, 2Q 1914 MT 11a 1636
Enoch PRICE, 2Q 1916 MT 11a 1505

The only birth registrations for David James PRICE that seem to meet the age requirement of the census are two in Breconshire:

3Q 1876 Hay 11b 142
3Q 1879 Brecknock 11b 105

Not absolutely convinced, but this is a good bet of being David and Elizabeth Ann PRICE in the 1901 census:

Address 7 Green Bach, Aberdare; unfortunately no PoB of adults:

David PRICE, Head, Married, 23, Colliery Fireman, NK Glamorgan
Elizabeth Ann PRICE, Wife, Married, 21, NK Glamorgan
David Rees PRICE, Son, 9 months, Aberdare Glamorgan

This family has the only Elizabeth Ann TASKER in the MT area in 1891:

Address 23 Dumfries St, Aberdare; all surnames TASKER; all born Aberdare.

Rees, Head, Married, 37, Iron Casting ?
Margaret, Wife, Married, 32?
Elizabeth Ann, Dau, 11, Scholar
Enoch, Son, 9, Scholar
David Rees?, Son, 7, Scholar
John, Son, 5, Scholar
Thomas, Son, 7 months.

I appreciate any help in pointing me in the right direction.

Thanks

So neither he nor she give a birthplace in 1911?

Hi,
No, can't find any records on 1911 census for either of them?

Have their address on Enochs Birth cert who was born 1916, showing as 19 Harp Terrace , Gelligaer.

Stella

have you searched for David Rees Price born 1900 on the 1911 census? I found only one in the Merthyr Tydfil registration district and it is the correct family.

The 1901 family you have is right and enumerated just 3 houses away at 1 Chapel Court is the Tasker family headed by Rees that you already have in 1891. 1901 ref RG13/5036 folio 57 pg 18.

Possible family from 1881
36 Elizabeth St, Fforchaman, Aberdare RG11/5322 follio 92 pg 6
Rees Larker head mar 28 blacksmith
Margt wife 23
Eliza A dau 1 yr 9 months (?)
all born Aberdare
There's only one bmd entry for surname Larker in Glam, and it's the marriage of an Adelaide in 1885, so I wonder if this is an enumerator error. It's not a mis-transcription as it says Larker on the original.

Birth reg would appear to be
Elizabeth Ann Tasker sept qtr 1879 Merthyr Tydfil vol 11a pg 492

marriage reg
Rees Tasker june qtr 1879 Merthyr Tydfil vol 11a pg 551 with Margaret Thomas on the same page

Thanks Osprey,
have been unsure due to the addresses not tying in.
I also have 4 other siblings of David and Elizabeth and wonder why they are not showing up? I would have been completely thrown with an incorrect surname too!
I will order the b/certs for David James Price under the 1876 birth reg and Elizabeth under the Sept 1879 reg for parents details.
I am also hoping to find the siblings of David Price in the census but probably need birth certs first.
I am obviously not au fait with the relevant sites enough. The free trial on FindMyPast seems to want payment most times, as do most of them when trying to identify which is the correct person.
I used ancestry previously and found this much better so will have to pay up again.

Thanks for all help received

Hi Stella

Just a gentle reminder not to ask, however obliquely, for a 1911 look-up.  Unfortunately we all have to pay for the resources we use and that's just one example.   :)

Once you've gone back over the info you have and maybe purchased a cert or two, please post back here - don't start another thread, or we will all get confused.

Many thanks, Arranroots  ;)

not sure what you mean by addresses not tying in. You wouldn't expect to find someone at their 1899 address in 1881.

I wouldn't order the 1876 birth cert yet. Check the 1911 details first and then try to find David James in an earlier census. He may have been registered as plain David. Work from what you know one step at a time. None of the David Prices within the Hay registration district in 1881 have a father who is a brake proprietor. Only one has a father David & he's a farmer.

You're on the right road with the Taskers, but take care as there is another Rees Tasker born Aberdare of a similar age. I think he married an Elizabeth and is a widower in 1891. Tasker rather lends itself to mistranscription.
