I too came to the conlution that benjamin is williams founder of manchester gazzetes son.  :D

Sarah Died after William, i think! will check when home.

i do remember that william had 4 boys and two daughters when he died.

the only one missing is citizen howarth cowdroy.

i tried to look for wootton Place on the 1861 census as this is where benjamin and frances was on the 1851 census. I think it could be missing.

I found a news paper artical that bejamin passed away in 1851 but i can not seem to find a death for Fances either....was she real.. lol ???

Hi again Nichol  :)

http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/search

Try putting in Cowdroy in the "Words" "With all the words" box near the bottom of the page; lots of bits come up about various bankruptcies to do with William Jr and Benjamin.  Benjamin was at one point in debtors' prison in London!!

Kind regards
Gaie

What an article :o

I wonder what happened to John James Cowdroy who was baptised in 1779?  Perhaps he died young, or perhaps he became "Citizen".

On FreeBMD Benjamin's death is shown as Jun 1851  Newington  4 _44 (looking on Findmypast the missing number looks like a 2).

There are two deaths on FreeBMD of Frances Cowdroys.

Mar 1865 St.Geo.East 1c 381 and
Dec 1866 Manchester 8d 273 (age 64).

If she stayed in London after Benjamin died, then the first one would perhaps be "your" Frances.  As she came from Portsea, I can't see her going to live in the North of England.

Thank you Gaie,

Funny you passing on a ling for the london gazett as i actually work for TSO publishers of london gazett..he he

Thanks Lizzie,

If bejamin died in 1851 and fancis in 1865 then she must be on the 1861 census and i cant see her living on her own at the same address as she was at in 1851... dont they usually move in with children??

There is a burial for a Benjamin Cowdroy on 22nd May 1851 at Nunhead Cemetery, Southwark but he was aged 18.  So not Benjamin b1784.  Possibly his and Frances's son baptised the same day as John in 1837.
