Hello

I have started work on a new project which is about producing nominal roll of former members of the West Somerset Yeomanry with short biographies.

If you have any information about former members please do let me know.

With best wishes

Asher Pirt

Hello

Many thanks for getting in touch. I would very much like further information for the nominal roll of former members of the West Somerset Yeomanry. I have currently very little concerning your relative:

Tpr. J Cook (Service No. 295369)
James Cook was born in Carhampton, Somerset. He was residing in Carhampton, Somerset when he enlisted at Taunton. His original number was 1619. On 3 August 1918, in France and Flanders, Cook was killed in action.

Once I have added further information I can send you an electronic copy of the nominal roll.

With best wishes

Hi
According to a book of Carhampton compiled by Hilary Binding Albert James Cook ,the son of Thomas and Rose Cook volunteered when only 13 years and 10 months old. He was accepted as 18 by recruiting office in Taunton as 18 years old .In 1917 he was sent to france and on the eve of coming home on leave he was shot by a sniper .His parents were invited as guests of the Daily Sketch to attend the dedication of the grave of the Unknown Soldier in Westminster
I have visited a grave of rememberance at Aire Cemetery near St Omer in france and have a photo if you would like a copy . He was a cousin of my maternal grandfather and had several brothers and sisters ,some of whom emigrated to America before he was killed
Hope this is of help to you .
