BLAMPIN & Apprentices
« on: Sunday 04 April 10 21:06 BST (UK) »
Hi All

I am looking for some information.   I have found some apprenticeships to Ferdinando Blampin
(Examples
Samuel Upham apprenticed to Ferdinando Blampin for Wood Mill by consent 2404A/PO 121/27 1775  &  Abraham Coleman apprenticed to Ferdinando Blampin for Old Mill by consent 2404A/PO 133/7 1787).

Following that there are some more for his son Thomas which started after Ferdinando's death in 1797.
(Examples
William Parrott apprenticed to Thomas Blampin for an estate called Woodmill 2404A/PO 146/6 1800
Simon Facey [born 3 May 1793] apprenticed to Thomas Blampin for the Half Moon Inn endorsed:
"This Shd have been for Great Mill Meadow" 2404A/PO 148/7 1802
Elizabeth Holcome, 12 apprenticed to Thomas Blampin for Smiths Houses 2404A/PO 151/9 1805
Maria Holcombe, 12 apprenticed to Thomas Blampin for Speeds Meadows 2404A/PO 155/2 1808
William Rutley, 10 apprenticed to Thomas Blampin, innholder, for the Half Moon Inn 2404A/PO 163/16 1816)

And for another son John -  Elizabeth Torrington, 9 apprenticed to John Blampin, yeoman 2404A/PO 180/16 1832.

I have the death for Ferdinando with no birth and I have the birth and death dates for his children.   Ferdinando married Elizabeth Perriman in 1757.

I am looking for the following information if anyone can help.   I am not sure whether the inns were owned or managed or what by this family
1 - more information on this family
2 - any history on Half Moon Inn in Cullompton, Devon.  I have found modern stuff on this but no history.
3 - any history for Wood Mill or any of the other things/places mentioned in the apprenticeships above

Just a note regarding my relationship with this family.  Ferdinando is my 5th great grandfather.

Any help at all would be appreciated.  If more information is required please let me know.

Thanks lyraea

I Google "Ferdinando Blampin" and found Cullompton Baptisms 1754-1777

These are listed:-
16.11.1757 Thomas Mauditt son of Ferdinando Blampin
22.04.1761 Jenny daughter of Ferdinando Blampin
23.01.1764 Richard son of Ferdinando Blampin
22.04.1767 John son of Ferdinando Blampin
13.02.1771 Betty daughter of Ferdinando Blampin

Then Googled "Thomas Blampin" and the Whites 1850 Directory came up with a Thomas Blampin, railway agent.

On the IGI 1881 Census found this Thomas J. Blampin listed as follows:-

Thomas J. BLAMPIN - Head - Married - Male - Age 39 - Born: Cullompton, Devon - Occupation: Baker
Sarah BLAMPIN - Wife - Married - Female - Age 40 - Born: Butterleigh, Devon - No occupation listed
Emily BLAMPIN - Sister - Unmarried - Female - Age 35 - Born: Cullompton, Devon - Occupation: Bakers sister
Caroline ELLIOTT - Niece - Unmarried - Female - Age 12 - Born: Butterleigh - Occupation: Domestic Servant
Dwelling: 91 Killigrew Street
Census Place: Falmouth, cornwall
Family History Library Film: 1341556
Public Record Office Reg: RG11
Piece / Folio: 2317 / 16
Page No: 27

The IGI has listed a Thomas Blampin born c1843 Cullompton who died 1891 - married Sarah Quick who died 8.11.1909.

Hope this is helpful.

Hi Priscilla

Thanks for your help with this.   I have Ferdinando's children as listed below.    Although I haven't looked too far into the 19th century with this family I am pretty sure that the Thomas below is a descendant but haven't yet been able to find any wives or children for Ferdinando's children with the exception of Jenny who married a Symes and I have most of their info.

What I have is the chldren as listed below, Ferdinando's mge to Elizabeth on 5 Jan 1757, his burial on 5 Mar 1797 and Elizabeth's burial on 22 Feb 1798.     So, apart from the history of the two places mentioned in my first post, from the family perspective I am looking for wives, children and further ancestors.

Again I appreciate your help with this

thanks

Hello i have just started looking into my family tree and i believe the Abraham Coleman is one of my great (by however many) grandfathers!!!! do you have any information on the type of business my grandfather was an apprentice to at all?? I have lots of questions about him and not sure if there was one of him or if there were two brothers, the stories i have may come true if i can find out what apprenticeship he was doing.

Many Thanks
Becky Coleman
