James Glen 1791-1876 Waterloo medal Holder - Completed - Thank You.

I was asked some time ago about George Glenn and what information I had on him.

I have just looked up the discharge papers for George Glenn and it states that he was born in Dunnichen and enlisted in the Royal Artillery on the 21st April 1809 at the age of eighteen for limited service.

He served for 9 years and 275 days and was a private all of his service.  He was discharged on the 31st December 1818 due to suffering from varicose veins. He signed the discharge paper so he was literate.

He is described at about 28 years old, five feet nine inches in height with light har, grey eyes with a fair complexion, his trade was given as labourer. There is an added note that George was a gunner in Capt Tylers company 7th Batt Royal Artillery.

There is a faded entry about George obtaining funds to return to Forfar with his family.

I also looked into George, found a marriage to Margaret Findlay 24/6/1837 in Inverkeilor, they had two daughters, live in Brechin Burgh 1841 Census at Cooksen, can not say if it is a match.

I'm off to Scotlands People centre for a day search soon. I will try and see if George died after 1855. Might be long shot but you never know. I will let you know what I learn.

Thank you Sarah. For added interest in this thread, Elizabeth Cameron, James Glen's wife, although I'm certain she was unaware of the fact, was a direct descendant of Robert the Bruce.

Elizabeth's paternal grandmother was Anne Crocket (married to her grandfather, John Cameron). Anne Crocket's mother and father were Thomas Crocket and Agnes Aitken who were both descendants of Bruce. Thomas was also descended from the Lyons of Glamis, The Stewart Kings and through Joan Beaufort, Queen of Scots (James 1st's wife) he was descended from John of Gaunt and the Plantagenet Kings of England. On another line he was also descended from Owen Tudor.
