Charles Lumley , b.1866 in Kensington

Hi All,

I am looking for information on Charles Lumley, my g.grandfather, recorded in family papers as born 1866 (Kensington) married to Maria Elizabeth Matthews, died 1946 (Paddington). I do have a birth cert for a Charles Lumley born in 1865 (close) but in Anglesey, North Wales (not so close !). If the b.cert is my g.grandfather's then his father's name was Robert, a coachman, but I have never heard of a Welsh connection so am very dubious.

His wife seems to have called herself just Elizabeth at marriage, though she was Marie (or Maria) E. in the 1901 census.

FreeBMD has a marriage in Sep qtr 1891, Paddington, for a Charles LUMLEY, where one of the brides is an Elizabeth MATTHEWS. This could be the one.

In 1891 Charles is a boarder in the household of John BALDWIN in Paddington, so the marriage is quite likely to be the right one. He was single 25, a Railway Porter, and born Wales, Anglesea.

Adam, if you have access to Ancestry, there are a couple of family trees on this line confirming all the info posted here. Not clear which of the children of Robert and Catherine they are following. A few generations back are showing for Charles' father, Robert. With mother Catherine's Irish roots, and the problems with researching in Ireland, no more information there on her line.
