Quick question
« on: Thursday 01 April 10 00:26 BST (UK) »
I came across this phrase on an NLI microfilm "Denuntiationes Banna Dispensanta" on a marriage entry. I presume it's something to do with Banns. Anyone know the translation of this phrase? Also what, if any, are the implications?

Dara.

Think Denuntiationes is declarations (?) so possibly Declarations of dispensations of Banns. Perhaps someone else will come up with a better answer.

Dispensed from announcement of banns is basic meaning. If you google "marriage banns ireland dispensation" there is an interesting posting on an ancestry.com board re this subject -including grounds for it.

Thank you all for your input.

I read that ancestry article and now I'm wondering what were the grounds for dispensation in this particular case. The marriage took place in Donabate, Co. Dublin.

Is there a local or central record of dispensations? Can I access this information?

Dara.

I've never heard of records of dispensations.  I do know that people just sometimes paid the money so that their neighbours wouldn't know their business!
