Edward O'Hare - Sands, Doyle, Boyle - Ireland & Edinburgh
« on: Wednesday 31 March 10 23:09 BST (UK) »
Hi there
Am looking for more details on my great grandfather Edward O'Hare.  Family thinks he came initially from Northern Ireland but .. not sure. Don't know his birth date (must be around 1830) and first certain info I have is his marriage in Edinburgh in 1850 to Elizabeth Loudon.  They had 6 children and Elizabeth died in 1863 aged 34.  Edward went on to marry my great grandmother, Alicia Sands (also born in Ireland) whose parents were John Sands and Mary Doyle.  My grandmother, Ellen, was born in 1867.  Edward's parents were John O'Hara and Mary Boyle. Would be great if someone out there knows more.  Thanks.

You'll find it very difficult to make any progress without more definite details about location. Irish records are far from complete online and on www.irish-roots.ie where the majority of church records are available there is no record of an Edward O'Hare with the father's name John. On www.irishgenealogy.ie there's an index to some more church records under the Central Signposting Index. Unfortunately John O'Hare & Mary Boyle are quite common names especially in Northern Ireland.

Hi there, I suspected it would not be easy!  The only other information I have is that John O'Hare (or O'Hara sometimes) was dead by 1865, (place unknown) and that Mary Boyle died in Edinburgh in 1861 aged 76 (born c1785).  According to death cert her parents were John Boyle and Mary Corachan.  My only chance could be that these names appear in someone else's family tree.
Belfast was mentioned but that could take me down completely the wrong road - but it may be something to try.  Thanks for help.
