John E Adamson & Margaret H Cousins
« on: Wednesday 31 March 10 04:40 BST (UK) »
Hello!  I'm hoping for, uh, lots of help!

John E Adamson
was born about 1799 in Bredbury, Chesire, England
He married Margaret H Cousins before 1834
He traveled to New York USA in 1854
and immediately went to Kingson, Ontario, Canada
He died 11 Jun 1858 in Kingston, Ontario, Canada

His parents were Daniel and Ann Adamson.  (That's all I've got, sorry!)

Margaret H Cousins
was born about 1811 in England
She died 25 Feb 1889 in Le Mars, Plymouth County, Iowa, USA

I have no information at all about her parents.

The children of John and Margaret Adamson were:
1) Daniel Adamson b 23 Aug 1833 in Westport, Ireland
He married Elizabeth Preston
2) Joseph Adamson b abt 1839 in England, d abt 1870 in Iowa, USA
3) Thomas Adamson b 27 Apr 1841 in Devonport Barracks, England, d Nov 1912 in Iowa, USA
He married Mary Ellen Mellor Jones (1843-1907)
4) Charles Adamson b 1847 in England
he married Basilia Gravatt

So, basically, I'd love ANYTHING!  I'd love to have better birth information, marriage information, tons more about the parents of John and Margaret, their siblings, ANYTHING.

Can any kind soul help me?

ADAMSON, extracted IGI

Christenings, Parents DANIEL and ANN
The Tabernacle Hillgate-Independant, Stockport, Cheshire, England

DANIEL, 09 March 1806
WILLIAM, 19 April 1807
ELIZABETH, 17 April 1808
THOMAS, 02 June 1809
ESTHER, 17 June 1810
RACHEL, 19 May 1811
DINAH, 07 July 1814

Now I cant find John E's christening and if his parents were Daniel and Ann then it would not appear on the Batch above which only covers 1801-1836.
So they were very busy having children Daniel and Ann.
There could be several more born to them 1789-1800

There seems to be a bit of submitted info on this family for example;
RACHEL married George PADMORE, 28 October 1832, Manchester, Lancashire
Maybe they all headed to Lancashire?
Looks good;
1851 Census
Burnage, Lancashire

George PADMORE, 46, Head, Mar, Brick layer-journeyman, born Burnage
RACHEL, 39, Wife, Mar, born Bradbury, Cheshire
John, 18
Ann, 11
Elizabeth, 9
Matthew, 7
Daniel, 6
George, 2
Mary, 1mth
All children born Burnage

By 1861 Rachel is a Widow and Housekeeper. Mary is still at home and there is a new child Sarah, born 1855

England and Wales Marriages 1538-1940
Daniel ADAMSON
Catherine TAYLOR, 24 July 1825, Stockport, Cheshire

If this is your Daniel I cannot find them on any Census. Maybe they emigrated pre 1841.

Trish :)

This is great!  Thank you!

"Daniel ADAMSON, 40, Ag lab
Mary, 40"
I'm not seeing the connection to  the family.  What am I not seeing?  Hmm....

The Padmores are another great find!  I knew she had married a Padmore.  :)

I have Daniel Adamson in Croton Dam, New York - but no date.
You are truly wonderful!!  Thank you so much for all your help!

Hi again, Yes, ignore that 1841 Census I posted ( I just forgot to delete after I found the Marriage to Catherine and realised they were not on the 1841 Census together). I will delete it.

Please dont use "quote" when replying as all that info uses up server space.

I will see if I can find anything on any of the others but so far no luck.

Cheers,
Trish :)

Of course you likely have brother Daniel on U.S. census in 1881 w. neice Sarah Padmore & Walter Here.
http://www.rootschat.com/links/08cs/ I imagine where you saw the Padmore connection
and just for the sheer interest that son Daniel now is a paint "merchant... http://www.rootschat.com/links/08ct/
Son John is in U.S. Emuneration District 23, Clark, Washington

Yes, I saw the 1881 census with Daniel, Sarah, and Walter.  A number of the Adamson men were painters - most of them moved around the country painting railway depots. Makes a paint ~merchant~ sound quite stable, lol!

I've started corresponding with someone who has a good deal of John E Adamson and Margaret Cousins descendancy.  Like me, though, he's not yet able to go further back in time.  The more descendants we find, the better chance we have that someone will have the missing clue - or just...one....more....name  :)
