As far as I know, an allegation stated that there were no impediments to the marriage, and the parties were not breaking Canon Law. There was probably no chance of the 500 pounds actually having to be paid in this case. But yes, it was a lot of money to pledge!

I made enquiries at the LRO.The Marriage Bonds etc for the catherdral are held at Cheshire.Do you have access to the Gale Newspaper site?

Thanks for going to that trouble for me , it has saved me doing it . :)
Regarding Gales newspaper site , I have noticed this mentioned on different postings but to be truthful I have never used it nor do I know what it contains . Is it accessible without buying credits or will it be available at public libraries?
