thanks for the reply, i can imagine you are having trouble finding information, we had the same , we are still searching for them. we have found some family members, can you tell me what name the person was who maybe related to us, as we may be able to help. also what was the grooms name do you know ??.

I have a similar thing. I know that my great grandmother was housekeeper at haigh hall (Jessie mckend) and that she was Scottish but id like to know more about her work, family and birth origins. I know she adopted my uncle but we know nothing of his origns either.

It may be worth taking a trip to Wigan and Haigh Hall.    IIRC  it is pronounced like Hay Hall.

Hi Everyone,
My family used to own Sibbering farm Blackrod from 1793 to 1821 it is in the Wigan area and many of the Sibbs worked for the Earl of Crawford and Balcarres from Haigh Hall. The family tale which all the different branches of the Sibberings' and related branches all tell the same story, that a Sibbering who worked for Balcarres as a groomsman eloped with one of his daughters'. He disowned the girl she had a daughter and later they forgave her. It might not have been a daughter of Balcarres but I know the Sibberings' were in the Wigan area in the early 16th century so it is possible. The only reason I thought there might be something to the story is that a brother of my grandfather was named Aubrey Crawford Sibbring now why would an English family use a Scottish middle name? Now the eldest of the brothers' Alfred was born in Cowick next to Snaith so was his mother Elizabeth Sibbring nee Aucock. The Aucocks' were kin to the Stephensons' all from Snaith. My g g grandparents were Henry and Elizabeth Sibbring nee Aucock Henry was born near Blackrod so this is how the tale must have been talked about was the groomsman a Stephenson or a Sibbering?? Recently I saw the name Elinor Crawford born Scotland where in Scotland I think the Earl of Crawfords' were from Fife, her husband being Robert Stephenson of course I can find no record of the birth!. Could it be possible that this Elinor Crawford be the daughter of a groomsman and an Earls daughter I still doubt it but it is fun trying to find out!
