Timothy Buckley about 1821
« on: Friday 26 March 10 13:35 GMT (UK) »
Timothy Buckley and Johanna Regan were married in Ireland had 4 children born in Ireland
Thomas about 1844
Robert about 1847
Patrick about 1848 – my second great grandfather
Denis (Denny) about 1850
Two more children were born in London
John born Bermondsey 1853 – no record of civil registration
Timothy born Bermondsey 1857-61 – no record of civil registration

Timothy and Johanna can be seen in the 1851 English census at 8 Bear Yard.

I have been unable to find any on-line Irish records as to their marriage or to the birth of their first 4 children or siblings of Timothy.

I’d like to find the county they came from in 1850. Can anyone help?

Thank you. David

Unfortunately all the dates you are looking for are before the start of civil registration. To find church records you need to know both the family's religion and where they lived.
At this point, if you did find children for a Timothy and Johanna Buckley there's no way of knowing if you have the correct family. If you get a birth certificate for one of the children born in Lodon that should at least give you Johanna's maiden name.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks aghadowey, this is why I'm asking, there is no civil English registration for the 2 children so there is no maiden name. There is no county on the 1851, 1861 or 1871 census. The religion will be R. C. so I could look for baptisms in the Bermondsey area but it would not be a simple task.

Buckley is especially common as a surname in the Cork / Kerry area... but without further details like a location (town, parish or townland) or Johanna's maiden name you will find it very difficult to locate the correct family.

Thanks Shane, yes Buckley is so common in Ireland and in South East London in the 1800s.

I emailed two London churches looking for Johanna maiden name over a month ago, there was no reply. I wrote to both again by post including an SAE, there has been no reply.
