Norwegian translation/deciphering help please
« on: Friday 26 March 10 00:17 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone.

I have a PDF of a Norwegian marriage registration from 1858, and it's making my brain hurt. I'm wondering if someone would be able to tell me what the column headings mean, what the last name of the groom's father could possibly be (I can only make out his Christian name), and what the other information means. It's too big to post here, so if someone thinks they could have s hot at helping me out, I could e-mail it to you if that's okay.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Kristy

Hi Kristy

Can you post just the relevant extracts ?

If not, and in the absence of anyone who can actually speak Norwegian, I'm up for the challenge! :D

If you send me a PM I'll give you my email.

Eddie

Hi Eddie, thanks for your reply and offer. I've tried to cut and paste a version I could post here, but the website's address appears over sections of the writing I want deciphered when I do that. So I'll PM you (and anyone else who wants a crack at it). Thanks again.

Cheers,
Kristy

If you got the information from the digital archives, you can just put the link (you need the permanent sidelink) rather than cut and paste and tell everyone which entry you are interested in. I don't mind having a go.

You can also try the digital archives debate forums. They are a really helpful there and obviously know a lot more Norwegian. Click on the users forum.
