Hi kala

Perhaps the best place to look, is the shipping columns (arrivals / departures) of the Nelson newspapers of the day.   See our great PapersPast website at the following link.

Actual date of arrival in Nelson was 22 August 1842.

You may be able to find departure date quite easily in the shipping columns (depending on what search terms you use) ... otherwise perhaps start looking from around end of August.

Ooops   ... had been applying the "general rule of thumb" in my previous posts.   :-[

I now see that there was only one Nelson newspaper in 1842 ... and it was published weekly so not too many shipping columns available.   :D

"The Nelson Examiner" - 24 September 1842 - page 114 ... does show that the vessel had sailed and was "in the Bolton Roads" (not sure what that is ... perhaps a shipping channel outside the Port of Nelson ?)  ... alas though, destination not given.     Perhaps a bit of "googling" might find an answer ... or (rather than the shipping columns) there may be a newspaper article which gives the destination ?

Hi Kala,
Details of the passengers and voyage are here
http://ww1.applications.nelsoncitycouncil.co.nz/early-settlers/voyageDetails.aspx?id=12

A good line drawing of the ship and layout here
http://www.thorogood.id.au/morgan_martin.htm

and details of an earlier voyage to Australia here
http://www.ries.cz.cc/vic1840/41/sc41.html

Cannot see any reference to it after arrival in Nelson.

Ahoy kala!

It appears that the vessel was in Port Nelson for some time, and may have been slipped on the 'hard' for part of it.

However, it sailed again on Friday 30th September 1842, bound for India.

Anchor a'weigh!

Hello sassofalco,

Can you tell me where you found the reference to it's departure date & next port of call?

Thankyou,

kala

Thankyou also to Lucy & John, but I already have all those details.

Just need to find when it departed & where to after it's arrival in 1842 at Nelson.

sassofalco has given those, but I need to know where that reference was found.

 :)
