Eliza COX
« on: Wednesday 24 March 10 10:04 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I am trying to find information regarding a birth in Melbourne, probably on 19 February 1876.   The mother was Eliza Cox nee Fletcher.  Eliza was married, but separated from Daniel Cox and living in NZ.   She became pregnant by a NZ man called Boylan (do not know his christian name) and he sent her to Melbourne to have the child.  He had told her to register the child in his name.    She had the baby and after a short time returned to NZ with the child who I believe was brought up by Eliza's brother and s-i-l in New Zealand, namely William Fletcher and his wife Christina.  I have not been able to find any records relating to this child.   Wondering if anyone could do a lookup for me please.

Hi Mary,
It is really important that this new thread is linked to your previous thread

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,441479.0.html

which is on the same subject. This will save searchers from wasting time in  researching and posting  information which you already have.

Hi Marj,

From the newspaper article...

Eliza Cox: "I was away until Sep. 1877; he had not followed and I came back because he had married another." (CAD!!  >:()

From NZ BDM:

1877/2066   Elizabeth Ann MARSDEN -   Patrick Jernon BOYLAN

Their marriage  http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast?a=d&cl=search&d=GRA18770926.2.5&srpos=1&e=-------10--1----2%22elizabeth+ann+marsden%22-all

If this is the same Elizabeth, perhaps they made a good match  http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast?a=d&cl=search&d=GRA18711014.2.12&srpos=3&e=-------10--1----2%22elizabeth+ann+marsden%22-all

Another reference to Patrick here http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast?a=d&cl=search&d=GRA18780416.2.17.5&srpos=1&e=-------10--1----0PATRICK+JERNON+BOYLAN-all   and others to just "Patrick BOYLAN", some of which can be positively identified.

Debra, You have done well thanks.    I am sure it will be the same Elizabeth Marsden and if so they go their just deserts.   Obviously she couldn't keep him like Eliza did.

Thanks heaps
Marj

Jen thanks so much.    Caroline has to be her, the poor girl having Boylan for a father.   I am now going to to try and find out if she stayed with the Fletchers or whether she finished up with Eliza.   Don't know how, but will get the thinking cap on.

Thanks again
Cheers

I am now going to link this information to my enquiry in NZ to see if I can find out who in NZ brought Caroline up.

Thanks for all your assistance.
