Leicester Fosse became Leicester City, not sure when, but I think it was after the date I gave you.

- was this Leicester City? If not, he won't be in my book  :-\

Until 1919, Leicester City were called Leicester Fosse, they joined the Football League in 1894, gaining promotion to Div I in 1908 (one season only)

Can I suggest you phone Leicester City and ask for the email address of the clubs historian, he/she will certainly be able to help you

Gadget and Simon,
I did e-mail Leicester City's historian a few months ago, but have had no reply.  When I found this thread, I thought I had a second bite at the cherry.  Thank you for the information, but if "b Carlisle" means that this Arthur Starkey was born in Carlisle, then it is not my grandfather as he was born in Coalville.  Can you confirm please.

Hi Ginge

I've had another look through the magnifying glass at this 3 pt print  ::)

He was born Coalville not Carlisle

Sorry.

All other clubs, etc. are correct  :)

Duck,

- so we now know that Michael Swarbrick played for PNE, possibly lived at 181, Skeffington Road, Preston in 1910

181 Skeffington Road is very close to the ground (200yards), I've just been to have a look, at that time it was the road that led to the east side of the ground

I've just been to Preston Library, in the 1910 Barretts Directory of Preston, R. Swarbrick, Weaver, is listed as head of household for 181 Skeffington Road

There is no mention of a Michael Swarbrick in the Preston Roll of Honour for WW1

Now this is where the plot thickens, I am led to believe that a Michael Swarbrick played one match for PNE in the 1918 - 1919 Principle Tournament - Lancashire Section.  Throughout the war an A. Swarbrick also played for the club

I am now waiting for details of the 1918 - 1919 match
