A James McCann made 6 appearances for Preston North End in the 1893-94 season, he came from north of the border but my book doesn't say where.  If this is your man let me know and I will post the match details

Most professional and a lot of the bigger amateur clubs have an historian/archivist.  It is always worth phoning the club up and asking for contact details.

Also a lot of clubs have a Former Players Association who maybe able to help.

This will be our man.  The info Iwas given was that it was John and Edward McCann.  However there was a a son called James.  It would be good to have the details.  Do you know if Edward played with Newcastle?  Many thanks for you time in this matter.

As you know, I looked them up and there are no John or Edward's mentioned in it. It only lists people who played in the Football League. They might have played for the clubs but not in the first team.

I think Simon can confirm this.

I can only lookup men that have played for our first team.  In the early years of professional football there are quite a lot of A.N. Others playing in reserve football, they were amateur players having trial matches for professional clubs
