I seem to recall Mary Ann McCRACKEN going to visit Templeton cousins in Orangfield, Belfast.

Has anyone made progress with family of William Grant, MP? I'm checking up on a few facts to upgrade  our entry in Dictionary of Irish Biography. We don't have his parents or his wife's names; checking in the 1901 and 1911 censuses, and records online, I am beginning to think that the birth year of 1877 given in online sources and thus used in our article may be wrong. In 1901 and 1911 a William Grant of Dock Ward. Belfast, who is a shipwright, as the right William Grant was, is aged 17 and 27, rather than 24 and 34 as he would be if born in 1877. If this is the right William Grant, his wife was Elizabeth and his parents were Martin and Mary Ann Grant, nee Gibson, probably. Can anyone confirm?

You are correct. William married Elizabeth Davison 18/04/1906 at Rosemary Presbyterian. On the marriage certificate his father was Martin Grant (Linen Lapper). This confirms his father and fathers occupation in the census records.

Furthermore an extract from the Belfast Newsletter of the time

Grant Aug 15 1949 at his son's residence 10 Dunlambert Avenue Fortwilliam Park
the Rt Hon William Grant MP husband of the late Elizabeth. Funeral from above address tomorrow (thurs) at 2pm

to Rosemary Presbyterian Church North Circular Road and thence to Carnmoney Cemetary. Deeply Regretted by his sorrowing family.

Hope this helps

I think it helps! I hope so anyway, but thanks very much for your reply. I hope it will be all right to assume that these William Grants, with the connection to Rosemary St and Elizabeth are both the same, and also the same as the MP. But it looks fairly solid, don't you think? if so I'll have to correct our entry in the DIB

Martin Grant and Mary Ann Gibson were married St Enochs Presbyterian Church Belfast 21 February 1873.

I believe 1883 (don't know exact date but you can find it on AncestryIreland.com)is the correct year of Birth.

Some other sites have 1877 as his birth year (wiki included) don't know where they got their information or proof from.
