« on: Monday 22 March 10 01:42 GMT (UK) »
Hi

does anyone recognise any of these gannon's from the 1911 Census -

house number 29 in Tober Hill Street (Westport, Urban, Mayo)

Gannon Michael 40 Male                 Blacksmith
Gannon Mary (walsh) 43 Female
Gannon Anthony 25 Male Brother   Blacksmith

there would be brothers which are missing - these would be John born 1882 and
Patrick 1878 and Thomas born 1885 - they were all born in Curry/Curvy in Aghagower nr Westport.

Not quite sure what you're asking but there are a number of reasons why they mightn't show up in the census at that address. They could have emigrated, could have married or could have moved elsewhere in Mayo/Ireland for work. Try searching the census for each of the names, narrow down by age (be generous they weren't always accurate) and see if you can locate them in Mayo http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie
Burns Scotland/Australia/Cork
Fitzgerald East Cork
Lynch Glanmire/Glounthaune
Walsh Clare/Westmeath
Haskett
Murley Cork

I'm sorry if my requst seemed vague :)

I am researching the gannon family from Aghagower, Co Mayo and the last record I have of them is on the 1911 census in Co Mayo - I have reason to believe the family may have migrated to England possibly Corby and I wondered if anyone researching the Gannon's recognised the family from Westport. I have looked at the 1911 Census for England but there are too many Patricks,Johns and Thomas's to narrow down a search I am hoping with a married couple Gannon/Walsh it may help someone to recognise a family connex.
Thomas spent time in Scotland - I have him in the poorhouse in Glasgow for a couple of weeks in 1905 and then he disappears from Scotland - I have checked Ellis Island and cannot see any record for migration and the family history would point to England as the more likely option.

thank you for posting this info on the 1901 census - I think I have already checked out everyone of these families  :'(

This is my family on the 1901 Census and I am trying to find the decendants of the children.

Louisburgh T. Chapel St. Kilgeever Murrisk Mayo Household Gannon Patrick(64) blacksmith/married John(17) blacksmith-Martin(9)

Oughty Oughaval Murrisk Mayo Household Gannon Catherine Keane(40) married Thomas(15) blacksmith-Anthony(13  This is the family of Patrick. confirmed with the parents of Anthony.

This is one family (no idea why they are at different addresses!) Martin is my grandfather who died in Glasgow - and I am now trying to locate the children.
the other son Patrick is at -
Westport T./Quay St. New Oughaval Murrisk Mayo Household McGreal Austin(35) shopkeeper Bridget(30) wife-Mary(5)-John(2)-Michael(5mo.)-Margaret Lydon(13) servant-Patrick Gannon(23) boarder/blacksmith/not married-Austin Lyons(25) boarder/tailor/not married -
By the 1911 Census Patrick and Catherine are dead - Martin is living with the Obrien family (connex thru the Keans side (mother) and Michael and Anthony are living in Westport. I am trying to find the missing siblings!
so anyone recognise anyone - get in touch! and thanks again for posting the Gannon info - you never know who it might help!

I have recently tentatively linked this same Michael Gannon and Mary Walsh to my family tree - maybe we can help each other.

My great grandfather (GG1) John Joseph Gannon immigrated to America in 1918, coming from Westport, Mayo. His father was (GG2) John Michael Gannon, and his mother was Bridget Ginely (spelled a few different ways depending on the document), also from Westport, Mayo. (GG2) John's father was a Michael Gannon (GG3), and I am unclear on any other details, so I've explored options available through records on Familysearch.org, and found Michael Gannon a widow, married to Mary Walsh, who together had a son John (amongst others children), so I linked this same Michael Gannon as an ancestor. The birth years and marriage year make sense with my GG2 birth year of 1868. (They were married in 1864/65).

I believe my great grandfather (GG1) brought his parents John Michael Gannon and Bridget (Ginely, or Grinely, or Ginelly) here to America once he had a residence. I suppose I assumed his grandfather (GG3) Michael, and grandmother Mary Walsh, perished in Westport, Mayo.
