Baines family Hallatron
« on: Saturday 20 March 10 20:15 GMT (UK) »
I wonder if anyone has any information on this family.  I have census entries showing Charles Baines was a grocer in the market square in Hallatron but would love any more information.  I think any records are likely to be non-conformist.

What years are you talking about?
Can you work out a year of birth from the census?

Thanks for your quick reply.  My great grandmother was Emma Baines born about 1844 in Leicester, daughter of Thomas Baines.  She was orphaned young, Thomas died in 1847 and she went to live with her uncle and aunt Charles and Sarah Baines in Hallatron.  The family are on all census from 1851 to 1901.  Charles gives his birth as about 1822 Hallatron.  Ideally I would like to know who his parents were as that would get me back another generation.  I think Thomas was born about 1811.  Any other information about this family would be welcome.

The IGI has some Bainses baptised at Hallaton but not Charles or Thomas

John Baines bap 19 Feb 1817 son of William Baines & Ann

Sarah Ann Baines bap 20 April 1828 same parents, died 22 Dec 1936
William Baines bap 1 Aug 1831 same parents
Elizabeth Baines bap 4 Mar 1833 same parents
Louisa Bains bap 27 Mar 1836 same parents

Ann Bains bap 1834 daughter of George Bains & Susannah

There's also a Richard Baines marrying a Elizabeth Almond on the 26 May 1825

so lots of Baines in the area!

Hi
There is a Charles Baines with what looks like a brother Joseph, both grocers, age 20, living in Leicester St Martin in 1841 H0 107/ 605/6.  Just above on the same page is a Baines family.

Was he a Tailor?
