Evening Valda, and thanks for the link.  Yes Im aware of the TWGPP site, and have done one or two things with them, but I started off with 1,900 graves to collect, so really reliant on volunteers, the same that the TWGPP are.

Thanks again

Phil

Hi Phil

Did you ever get a photo of that grave?  Cecil is a family member and would also like a photograph if one is available

Afternoon Ray, yes I did.  If you pm me your email address I will send it across.  I will also look in the Battalion war diaries to see if he is mentioned.

ps, I will be passing the grave tonight on my way to Surbiton from Waterloo, so quite apt.

Phil

Hi Everyone

My grandfather was Cecil Archibald Burrage who died before I was born.

My mother Daphne Short nee Burrage is still alive. We used to live at Wandsworth Common not far from his grave.

I also live in Surbiton. If anyone has any records I would love to hear from you.

I have done some research and also have some photographs

Colin

Hi Colin

Not sure how much information you know but I have information relating to Cecil's wife (your grandmother) Elizabeth K Gleeson born 1894 Brighton died 1944 Battersea.

Elizabeths parents were Lt.Patrick John Gleeson born Ireland 1862 died 14 Aug 1900 at Naauport, South Africa whilst serving during the Boer War (I have a photo of his rather impressive headstone), and Catherine Elizabeth Madden born 1863 Pontypool died 1943 Battersea.

Patrick & Catherine had 5 children:

Andrew John Gleeson Served in WW1 - he had a son who was awarded a DFC in WW2 (KIA)
Augustine Gleeson    KIA in Flanders WW1 age 24 years
Sydney Gleeson    Served in WW1  promoted to rank of Lt.
Harold Gleeson  No positive information but believe he may had died in 1922 with the army in Bermuda.

Patricks brother was Lt.Col Andrew Fitzwilliam Gleeson OBE (who was married to Catherine Maddens sister Johanna Madden) They had 8 children.

A brother of the two Madden sisters married a sister of the two Gleeson brothers.

I have a huge amount of information on the Gleeson/Madden line and when you have made a few more posts (two I think?) I will be able to send you my email address on the PM system.

I was in touch with a cousin of yours about a year ago - Brian son of your aunt Rosaleen.

Hi Ray

it was fantastic to hear from you, My mother did a lot of family research years ago, a long time before the internet.

She also did a lot on the Gleeson/Madden family, and even went to Malta for info.

My mother always told us the story of how her mother Elizabeth, in 1944 asked her to go to the church in Nightingale Sq, Balham, whilst in the confession box with my mother waiting outside,
she keeled over and died. My mother was 20 at the time. She went on to bring up her siblings as a mother, as she was the oldest.

My mother said Elizabeth had a stressful life, her daughter Cathleen died aged 9, her husband Cecil had died of meningitus and her mother Catherine Madden died on Balham High st, on a Zebra crossing, hit by a bus.

It looks like you have done a lot of research yourself.

I have never met Brian son of Rosaleen, my mother said she moved to Ireland, but sorry to say we have not had contact. It would be good to communicate with him.

Thank you for the information, it would be great to learn more, As I said previously we have some photo's I could send you.

Kind regards

Colin
