Apps in Kent
« on: Wednesday 17 March 10 12:50 GMT (UK) »
Hi Kent researchers

Following a request from an Old Lady I have been following her Husbands Ancestors back through time (see Pettitt on the Suffolk Boards) and now she would like me to trace her ancestors who were Ag Labs and Shepherds in Kent.

This time the surname is APPS, especially in Brenzett where they were carpenters, Wheelrights and later became fishermen.

I understand that in Breznett churchyard there are a row of tomstones to the Apps family - does anyone have any names and dates from same please.

I have traced them back through time via the census returns, so that area is covered, so now am spefically looking for Parish Register entries to confirm these details.

Thanking you all in advance

There are no APPS on the Kent Archaeological Society website MIs for Brenzett (but there are some in nearby Brookland)

There is a Richard APPS mentioned on the tithe award for Brenzett

Hi Bearkat

Thanks for those links, Have had a look and noted contents - looks as though they will be coming in handy pretty soon.

I think the old lady said Breznett when she should have clearly said Brookland, but maybe the doubt is that they lived in 2 Lakes Cottages at Breznett for all of their lives.

As I said before
Thanks

Hi, In Brookland there is an Alfred Apps b 1868 to a couple Frederick and Dennis who are living in Brenzett, and then earlier, a Walter Apps born in Brenzett but baptised in Brookland.

Frederick A was born it seems in Fairfield but his parents and Walters parents were lab s and shepherds..

Can you tell me of a specific name?

Also a friend researching EPPS has found the name changes to Apps in many cases so is collecting both of these surnames.

I can put you in touch with her if you want me to.

All the best
Lis

Hi lis

Thanks for that info - am sure it will come in handy soon

As I said in an earlier post, I have only just started this side of her family for the Old Lady in the Care Home, but will soon get up to speed with it I think

Thanks anyway

Hi again Lis

Sorry, fogot to say that the Apps family from the 1911 census which is the grandfather of the old lady is as follows
Edward James Apps and his wife Annie Elizabeth Fowler, married in 1896 and lived at Laker Cottages, Brenzett
They had 6 children including Richard George Apps (her father) who married Kathleen Hester Giles and lived at 1 & 2 Laker Cottages in Brenzett which I believe they eventually owned.

Anyway, any help would be appreciated

Hi again Lis

Just done a bit of browsing on the census via the internet and it looks like the direct line is as follows

Reginald George William Apps and Kathleen Hester Giles married 1921
l
Edward James Apps and Annie Elizabeth Fowler married 1896
l
John Clarke Apps (Shepherd) and Harriett Barden? married about 1866 in Tenterden
l
Thomas Apps and Ann Ferris married about 1835

or something like that
