marraige of McGoogan to a McGoogan
« on: Saturday 25 October 08 17:22 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace marriage of gg grandparents both name of Mcgoogan or Mcgougan. I have checked death certificates on Scotlands people plus other family entries on same and all say same.
John Mcgoogan born around 1836 married Nancy or Agnes Mcgoogan born about same time. Johns father on death cert was given as Patrick a farmer and Agnes father was Andrew a linen weaver.
Do not know date of marriage only know they were from Ballymoney Armoy area and came to Scotland 1n 1890's.
I was in the Ballymoney area two weeks ago for first time felt very at home everyone so helpful. Hope you can help again.
cheers Shyann

Many thanks Mary looks like it could be them as they did have children with these names . Have only started putting this part of family together with records from various sources. I had a look at the gravestones in this church when I visited. Will have to  go again. To look for their parents will I have to search parish or church records same as in Scotland?
Grateful Shyann

In Ireland there are civil records and church records.

Marriages usually, although not always, took place in the bride's church.

The following records are available at PRONI (and Coleraine Library):
Armoy Presbyterian Church: baptisms 1842-1906, marriages 1815-1920
Armoy Church of Ireland (Drumtullagh): baptisms 1826-1891, marriages 1827-1829, 1831-1910, 1913-1982, burials 1827-1893

Many Presbyterians are buried in Church of Ireland burying grounds but may not be recorded in the C.of I. burial registers. It's also possible that no headstones exist.

I am looking for a marriage in north Antrim for a John McGoogan born around1836 to a Nancy McGoogan born about 1840. The spelling could be differant. These are my gggrandparents who came to Scotland in the 1890,s.
i have the info from their death certificates here in Scotland.
The death certificates say that the father of John was Patrick McGoogan and the father of Nancy was Andrew one father was a farmer and the other a weaver according to death cert  Would appreciate any help in finding marriage in Antrim or other info relating to the family.

Shyann- you've already posted a request for the information on ANTRIM board so I've merged the 2 threads to avoid needless duplication. If you look at the 1st reply here you'll see that meryderry already found the marriage details for you in Oct.2008.
