I didn't have any luck looking for Furfey records.

I'm awfully sorry but I have know idea what you mean by:

" I have the Kinego Furfys Brownlows Derry near Lurgan Armagh if you think it might be them. The Magheralin Furpheys are living in Lurgan currently and the Catholic Church at Kilwarlin may help you with them. "

The only thing I know about my Furfey's is that they come from County Armagh - I know nothing about Ireland.  So if what you have might help me - please let me know!!

Thanks

Sorry for not reading all of the posts in this thread before responding. There are two William Furfys in County Armagh on proni.gov.uk freeholder one at Kinego and the other refered to by previous contributors to this thread. The Kinego records are for the lives of William and James Furfy 1822 and I assumed rightly or wrongly that these are brothers. Kinnego as it is known now is a townland about a mile from Lurgan on the shores of the south east corner of Lough Neagh in the Census DED of Brownlows Derry County Armagh. These Furfy (furphy)s are in my tree I will check if there is an Elizabeth McGee (Magee) marriage. I have found your Williams children in Mass and New York and all were born in Lurgan Hugh possibly married Anna McGinnis on 2 Dec 1856 at Cambs, Mass. She was the daughter of John McGinnis, William an engineer died in Brooklyn on 9 Aug 1901, immigrated 1846 married 1860 Isabella died 20 Nov 1872 in Boston Mass and Mary died 16 Dec 1888 Boston Suffolk, Mass (Occupation) seamstress.Neither of these women married? I will check if these baptisms are in my St Peters Parish Furphy records which should prove or not that they are Kinnego Furpheys. My records are in work and I am at home but will get back to you in the next few days :)

Thank you very much for getting back to me.

With the Furfey's that came to US - you have to watch out for names - Both brothers - James b 1824 Ireland and Hugh b Oct 1827 Ireland married an Ann.  James married Ann McGuiness, Hugh married Anna Maginniss(sp) and both brothers ended up naming their children the same.  Drove me crazy on Census.

James Furfey b 1824 is my gg grandfather, he died 1900 Cambridge, MA.  His wife, my gg grandmother,  was Ann McGuiness b 1825 Ireland, she died 1891 Cambridge, MA.

James's father was William Furfey  b 1788 Ireland.  He died 8/15/1854 Cambridge, MA.  James's mother was Elizabeth McGee born Ireland died on voyage over here(found that out from her son's(Patrick) record at Tewksbury, MA State Hospital .  William's father was James Furfey and his mother's first name was Mary.  This info was from a death listing.

What I figured out was that William and Elizabeth Furfey had:

James b 1824 married ?, died 1900 Cambridge, MA, Hugh b 1827 married 1856 died 1898 Cambridge MA, William b 1829 married 1861 died 1901 NY, Isabella b 1833 never married died 1872, Mary b 1836 never married died 1888 and Patrick b 1839 married 1860 died 1910 .  All children born in Ireland.

When I first found them on the 1850 Census for US there were other family members living with them.  Cornelius, Richard and a Michael.  Never found out how Cornelius was involved in the family - brother,, cousin or whatever.  A woman did contact me and thought that Michael and James b 1824 were cousins.  James opened up a Mat Manufacturing business in Cambridge, MA and Michael worked there and lived next door to him.  There were also Furfey's that opened a Mat Manufacting plant in New York.  This is what I was trying to figure out - who were cousins.  Was William b 1788 an uncle to the Furfey's in NY.  That is why I would love Ireland birth records.

I have more names and ,marriages and deaths if you would like them.

Margaret

Can you give me some other surnames who were in the same house in the census forms, I think I saw a Homes or Holmes yesterday when I did a quick check. There is a John Furpfy in Edward St Lurgan with 7 children around 1850 who married a Martha Holmes (Homes) This might help with the other furphey forenames. A lot of Lurgan boys headed for Cambridge Point and Ontonagon because of the Copper Mines and the huge presence of local people. I will look at Furphey BMDs from St Peters and revert. My connection is Thomas Furfy 1835-1879 born Kinnego son of William and husband of Isabella Hart. Their daughter Mary married Teddy Livinstone and ended up in Ontonagon MI. I think there might be a connection so I am quite happy to spend some time on this - will keep you posted :)

Hi Margaret,

I am the g niece of Michael Furfey who lived next door to James in Cambridgeport.   James' parents and Michael's partents are not the same.   On my g uncle Cornelius' naturalization papers,  it listed Michael Furfey, witness to naturalization,  as living at 43 Perry St. in New York in 1852.  I wonder if the Furfey's all lived in the same neighborhood in New York.  I have not been able to find the ship Michael, Cornelius (Neil) and Richard came came over in.  I have even checked Philadelphia with no luck.

Will try to get your family tree from Ancestry.

Do you know what year?

Also, on my ggrandfather came from Lurgan, County Armagh.  I was told by my genealogy group that often times immigrants used the largest town/city near them to say where they came from.
