hi, whitstable,  i have heard of the names you mention. but i have not looked up any. there is a good site to start, it is called romany genes, there are also many sites with romany names and connections on line, that should come up with info if you type in romany links, most have free, and pay sites.try looking at occupations,ie hawkers traders dealers. olso look at other names that marry in,they can help in finding out if your conected to gypsys. good luck. rob g

Sorry for late reply Whitstable.  The Ripleys and Brazil's are also in my tree so we're related. Which Roberts do you come from?  Im Samson Roberts 1864's great great granddaughter. His parents were Samson and Matilda.

Yes, lots of Roberts in Sussex and Kent. The 1911 census on Find my Past might help you, or ordering certificates.

Hi,
It seems we may have the same people connected to our trees.
I have Sarah Ann Blackman married to Joseph Ripley at Hailsham Sussex and their daughter Maria Ripley then married William Brazil.
Sarah and Joseph 's son Henry married Priscilla Beaney
It appears Sarah was a prisoner in Lewes Gaol and House of Correction at the time of the 1861 census. but have not been able to trace why.
Sarahs father was Henry Blackman but I have been unable to trace any thing else on the Blackman family prior to the marriage of Sarah and Joseph.
Their are also (amongst many others) Hughes,Thompson, Chainey and Bird (Burd) within the tree.
If our trees are touching on the same family I wondered if you might have any additional information which you would be prepared to share, particularly relating to the Sarah Ripley (nee Blackman) and her family.
Many Thanks
