Looking for info on James Fry born about  1861 in Cheddon Fitzpaine.
He married Mary in 1887.
The family moved to Cumberland where James was a gardener.

Can you clarify whether you are researching backwards from 1887 or forward from 1887

Are you confusing his birthplace with where he was living in 1891?  1891 has him b Trull but living in Cheddon Fitzpaine

Have you looked for him on the 1881 census which is free to search yourself at
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/search_census.asp

He is living with parents and siblings in 1881

There is only 1 Marriage on FreeBMD for a James Fry 1884-1889 in Somerset with a Mary on the same page;
James FRY, March 1886, Taunton, 5c 493
On the same Page is Mary CADDY

This would have to be confirmed by the Birth Cert of one of James and Marys children

Thank you for giving me details.
He was married in Somerset but could be from another area.

HI Elizann  :)

Could you tell us where you find that the family moved to Cumberland because the only James Fry that I can find on any of the censuses b. Somerset is the one Carole had mentioned - born Trull (Dec q, 1861). In all of the subsequent censuses he is shown as born Trull - married to a Mary and eldest son a Henry J Fry on the 1901 (  RG13/2275/8/7 )

The only James Fry in Cumberland that 1 can find born circa 1861 was born in Westmorland. He also was married to a Mary and was a gardener.

The Trull James remained in Somerset.

Here is the Cumberland one ~

In 1901:

Lazonby Hall, Lazonby, Cumberland
RG13/4857/66/20

James Fry, 40, Gardener (domestic), b. Lowther, Westmoreland
Mary Fry, 35, b. Barnham, Suffolk
William T Fry, 10, b. Lazonby
Mabel Fry, 9, b. -do-
Charles H Fry, 8, b. -do-

In 1891

Lazonby Hall Cottage, Lazonby, Cumberland
RG12/427/73/18

James Fry, 30, Gardener/domestic servant, b. Westmorland, Lowther
Mary Fry, 25, b. Suffolk, Barnham
Thomas W Fry, 9 months, b. Lazonby

Is this your James?

I have the details of both the James's families on the censuses back to 1861 but won't give them until you say which is yours.

Hi again

I've looked through your previous postings and it looks has if you have close links with Cumbria so here's what I've found on James Fry the gardener:

1871
Lowther, Westmorland
RG10/ 5275/ 23/3

Jane Fry, widow, 42, Annuitiant, b.Cumberland, Carlisle
William Fry, 13, b. Wstmorland, Askham
James Fry, 10, b. Westmorland, Hackthorpe

1861
Hackthorpe, Lowther
RG9/3962/22/3

John Fry, 34, gardener, b. Lowther
Jane Fry, 32, b. Carlisle
William Fry, 3, b. Askham
James Fry, 3 months, b. Hackthorpe

This James's  birth ref is:

James Fry March q, 1861, West Ward, vol 10b page 542

Marriage:

Mar q, 1857, West Ward, vol 10b page 689

John Fry and Jane Horsley are on the same page
