Thomas Smith (1834 - 1874)
« on: Sunday 14 March 10 16:46 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

Help needed please:

I'm looking for the details of Thomas Smith my G-G-Grandfather on my Mum's side of the family,  married to Maria Russ nee Matthews in 1873 at the Parish Church, West Ham, Essex.

Thomas and Maria had a son Arthur Edgar born in 1873 in Forrest Gate, West Ham. I only have the above details for Thomas apart from that he was married before (spouse unknown) and had a son Leonard ? who had died.

According to the marriage certificate for his wedding to Maria his father was also Thomas Smith who was a soldier in the Royal Artillery and Thoma's job was as a foreman carriage cleaner (probably based in Stratford for the Great Eastern Railway).

Thanks for any help in advance
Simon

Hi Simon

A warm welcome to Rootschat.

Have you found Thomas on the 1871 or 1881 census? This should give his birthplace but with a name like Smith it may take a bit of working out to find out which is your Thomas on the censuses.

There is a family tree on Ancestry of this family. Is it yours? If not I can give you the info from it.
regards.
