Looking for the Family of Robert J Williams llangadfan
« on: Saturday 13 March 10 21:54 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to trace the family of My Maternal Grandfather Robert John Williams Born 17th March 1887 in Llangadfan (I have his birth certificate).  His fathers name was Robert Williams born around 1851, his mother was Ann Hughes born around 1858.

The family moved to Runcorn, Cheshire when he was about 3 years old.  The 1891 census has the place of birth for all members of the family as Holyhead, Wales.  I know from My mother the birth certificate I have is correct as my Grandfather told my Mum that his was born in Montgomeryshire & that he was born on St. Patricks day.

The 1911 Cenus has My Grandmother Ann Williams (widow), living in Runcorn with her youngest son, it has her place of birth as Llanfair, Montgomeryshire.
it also states that Ann had 7 children, My mother only ever heard about 4 of them but I have discovered from Cenus returns from 1891 - 1911 another 2 children.

There were;
Owen Williams born about 1876
Alice Williams born about 1883
Edward Williams born about 1885 LLansainffraid, I think
Robert John born 17/3/1887
John Thomas born March 1895 Runcorn
Annie Williams born 1900 Died 1910 Runcorn
there must have been another child somewhere in between.

I'm hoping that someone can help point me in the right direction as to where I should go from here.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

If you've not used it you can use:

http://www.northwalesbmd.org.uk/bmd_welcome.html

to locate birth certs. Its a bit better for narrowing things down than the GRO Index. Looking for the parents, I might consult the parish registers for wherever the census says they were born. Some of those are ava. on FindMyPast. otherwise join the Montgomeryhire Gen. Soc. - use their library or request lookups OR head to Newtown Library OR head to Powys Archives.

Also, the IGI may cover those years: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountyMontgomery.htm#PageTitle

Or are you looking to go down rather than up?
