Gravestone at the Rower
« on: Saturday 13 March 10 19:57 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
Can anybody help?
I have been given the following inscription from a Gravestone at the Rower:
Location headstone inside graveyard gate, by the wall, on the left
Inscription
Erected by James Audley Raheenduff
In Memory of his father George Audley Ballycommon, The Rower who died 29th August 1891 aged 80 years and his mother Elizabeth Audley nee Harrington Raheenduff who died 30th October 1899 aged 87 years. (etc)

Does any body go past the cemetery and could they possibly check the above inscription as someone has now told me that:
George Audley died 4th September 1891 and Elizabeth Audley died 27th November 1889 aged 88.

Many thanks in anticipation of your help
Regards
Brian

Hi Jack,
Many thanks for the photograph. I think I must conclude that the dates on the gravestone are incorrect as the other dates I have been given appear to have come from the death certificates of the people mentioned. The only thing I can conclude is that the gravestone was erected some time after the burial and as a result the incorrect dates were added.

The photograph is far more than I expected. Can I have your agreement to put it on my website www.audleyfamilyhistory.com ? I would put it under Photographs of People; Audley Family F.  Did you by any chance take any more generalphotographs of the chirchyard?

Many thanks for your help
Regards
Brian

Yes, you may do as you wish with the photo.
I only took photo's of other headstones, but if you let me know what you need, I might get down there again soon,
Jack

Hi Jack,
Many thanks for your message.
I have now put the image of the gravestone on my website Check out the link:

http://www.audleyfamilyhistory.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=82&Itemid=92

If the link does not work go to www.audleyfamilyhistory.com then select 'photographs of people' then select 'Audley Family F'.

I would appreciate it if you could suggest the final few words below the photograph.

When I put the original message on the message board I was only after a check that the inscription I had was correct. I would really apprciate it if the next time you are at the Rower you could take photographs of some other Audley Graves.

The only descriptions I have of the locations are:

(to the right of the gate, row 2 or 3rd, half way across the row)
Inscription starts; Erected by James Audley Rossnanowl

(adjoining  grave above)
Inscription starts Erected by William Audley

(to the left of the gate, down by the side of the old church)
Inscription starts Thomas Audley 7th June 1878 aged 65 years

(location not known)
Inscription
David Doyle                          14 September 1971 age 80 years
His wife Elizabeth nee Audley     9th August 1974  age 83 years

Only have a look for these grave stones if it is convenient to you.
Many thanks for your help

No need to acknowledge, it's been a pleasure.
