Unknown Relative - Identify Year and Regiment please if possible?

Hi

Can anyone help me identify these 2 photographs...I think they are the same person but not sure... back of photo reads  Ella 43 Amber st
Possible William Ella  (gt Granddad) born Yorkshire 1883

 In 1901 Census was 17 and living at 43 Amber St Middlesbr occ Cabinet Maker
 by 1911 census he was living in Manchester and married with children(my gran)

What regiment and year ...is it William?

The ear lobe on man with the "York" on his epaulette looks longer than the man with "Essex" on his epaulette.  His nose appears to be narrower. I think they are different people but they have a resemblance. Brothers possibly ??

No doubt our military specialists will know which Essex and York Regiments they belonged to

thanks I didn't even spot that much!! The lower one is almost certainly William Ella I think I do not know who the other one is...maybe a Dutton? Alexander b 1898 but he served with Welsh fusillers in WW1....

hmmm it could be my mother's grandfather Thomas  Wakefield born 1874 if this is WW1 person?

or is it a WW2 uniform?

Looks like WW1 uniform to my untrained eye but our experts will no doubt comment in due course

Both WW1 pics...

The lower one has the chap with (rather poorly tailored) good conduct chevron and x3 wound stripes. There is also a divisional badge on his sleeve.

As for your DOB of 1874....Very much doubt it I'm afraid...Much later...Perhaps late 1880s/early 1890s

Hi

My sister thought it was a picture of Alexander Dutton my grandfather but the badge saying Essex throws this out doesn't it as he served with the Welsh fusillers? He was encarcerated at Kut in  the battle and recieved medals,
My other grandfather was born circa 1905 so he would be to young but maybe its someone in his family..they were Wakefield?

Perhaps I will never know?
