St Peter's Parmentergate, Norwich
« on: Saturday 13 March 10 12:50 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
My gt gt gt grandfather is buried in this churchyard (sadly church is no longer used for worship). I'd like to find out the meaning of the symbol on his gravestone - a Star of David with a capital G in the centre.
I know that he wasn't a Jew. The gravestone is now broken but you can still see the symbol clearly.
If anyone can help I'll be very grateful.
Thanks,
Holly

Looking for Joseph's parents.

This is excellent (though with an American bias):

(Star of David means divine protection - as for the G in the centre - might it be his or a loved ones initial? Or God?)  :-\

The G in the centre means God, it's a Masonic symbol,
To be more clearer this symbol is called by the Freemasons, Solomans Seal, since King Solomon is considered to be the first Freemason.
So it's possible it's a non Jewish headstone, but a Masonic one.

Thanks for that info Shoeman, I'm very grateful, though not particularly happy about it, as I don't agree with all the secrecy etc surrounding the Freemasons. Still I can't be responsible for what my ancestors did years ago, can I?
Thanks again,
Holly
