Thomas Fisher.b Wakefield in 1840's COMPLETED.
« on: Friday 12 March 10 14:37 GMT (UK) »
I am searching the census returns for Thomas Fisher. he was born in Wakefield about 1843
I know from his children's birth and marriage certificates that his wife is Mary Rowland, who was born in Ardsley about 1843.
I can find them in the 1891 Census for Alverthorpe with children JAne, (13) Rowland (5) and Willie (2).
I can link the 1891 census for Alverthorpe with the 1881 for Wakefield via Jane (2) and mother in law  Mary Rowland and dau Charlotte's Birth Cert. which I obtained. Older child Mary A (age 12) is shown born in Dewsbury (1869).
But I can't find the family in 1871 in any Dewsbury as I would expect, not in surrounding areas.

Can anyone find them in 1871 in this area please?
Can anyone find a marriage record for them I have not found other children earlier that Mary A (1869). so normally indicating married before that date -though might not have been married at all!
Then, once I get the link to the Dewsbury area, it will be even more fun, are there are dozens of Fisher families here abouts!

Many thanks,

Quote
he was born in Wakefield about 1843

1891 shows Dewsbury 1847

1881 - Dewsbury 1843

Big gap in ages between daughters Mary aged 12 and Charlotte aged 5 on the 1881

Yes, despite the common people in the 1891 and 1881 Census returns, that concerned me a bit -I did wonder if I had two different people.
Nut I have big gaps in other parts of my family, where children were born and died in the intervening 10 years.
Suppose I could send for the Birth Cert for Mary A.
Unless someone has a Dewsbury Baptisms register/ transcription for a lookup 1869

I've got a weird feeling about this couple.  I wonder if wife Mary had been previously married in which case you would be looking for a Thomas Fisher/ Mary ??? marriage

I've checked the 1851 and 1861 and there is no Mary Rowland b Dewsbury or Wakefield 1840-1844 and I cannot find mum Mary in 1851 or 1861

Notwithstanding that one Census shows Mary fisher b Manchester, the one I want was Mary Rowland was born in Ardsley - not a million miles away.
But if Thomas was married before, IfI find a Cert for Thomas Fisher and Mary Rowland, it will be circa 1868, and therefore show him as wid. or single, and solve it.

I forgot to add: the Ardsley I am speaking of is I think the one between Wakefield and Bradford, rather than the one near Sheffield. Or further away. Eric

YEs, I had them. The Mary here is the one who appears as the Mother in Law in 1881 though as age 82. the one I think marries my Thomas (b about 1843) is also b Ardsley, 1844ish.
