CHANTLER Family Descendants - Queensland
« on: Friday 12 March 10 05:43 GMT (UK) »
I would be extremely grateful for any help in identifying any descendants of Alan Henry CHANTLER, born in Queensland (and I strongly suspect Brisbane) in 1909. His death is recorded in Qld 1933.
Or, his sister, Gladys Mary CHANTLER born Qld 1912. (I haven't found a married name).
The parents of these two were Henry Thomas Chantler and Harriet Mary (nee) ODLING.
(Harriet/Mary was NZ born and also had a NZ born brother, William James Hall ODLING, who probably also grew up and married in Qld).
I am of the same family as Harriet Mary Odling. (The 'lost cousin' of my father).
Any glimmers of hope will be humbly accepted.
Thanks
Ed

Hi Ed,

Alan was buried at Toowong

http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/BCC:BASE::pc=PC_899

MI Toowong Cemetery

Alan Henry (Dick) CHANTLER
died 10 Nov 1933
Aged 24 years
Only son of H. & M. CHANTLER

It does not sound as if he had descendants.

Queensland BMDs

https://www.bdm.qld.gov.au/IndexSearch/BirIndexQry.m

There are no marriages for these two before 1934 (the Queensland marriage cut off point)

Just a little reminder that RootsChat is unable to assist with living persons for privacy and security reasons. If anyone can help with descendants please use our secure PM system.

Cheers Kris  :)

1936- 1954  Electoral Rolls

Stratton Terrace Wynnum

CHANTLER Henry Thomas - Lithographer
CHANTLER Mary Harriet - Home Duties
CHANTLER Gladys Mary - Home Duties

therefore it seems unlikely Gladys Mary had children either.

Thanks Kris -
I realised that Alan (Dick) Chantler probably didn't leave any descendants and thought that his sister, Gladys Mary Chantler probably offered the best chance.
However, the Qld records cut off before I can locate a marriage for her.
Thanks for the reminder, but I'm confident that the person I seek Harriet/Mary Chantler (nee Odling) would not be still alive. (Born 1887).
I'm still hopeful that anyone who recognizes a link with the names of Chantler and Odling might be able to help me.
Thanks
Ed

In 1903

CHANTLER Thomas Henry is at Gertrude Street (Lithographer) with
CHANTLER Henry - Waiter and
CHANTLER Jane Stoddard - Home Duties

In 1913 Thomas Henry and Mary Harriet appear at Stanley Terrace Taringa where he is listed as a printer

CHANTLER Mary Gladys appears in the admission register for the Taringa State School January 1918

Hi Ed,

The little reminder was  as you had asked for

Quote

At the time I wondered in Gladys may have married had a family but as she is still with her parents in 1954 (aged 42) the possibility seems remote. Good Luck

Thanks Kris-
Point taken. Pardon me if I inadvertantly breached protocols. It wasn't intended.
I perhaps worded my request poorly -
I was only asking for the help of any living descendants of the Chantler line because I am seeking information about their mother, Harriet Mary Odling.
In reply to Sue, I believe that anyone with the middle name 'Hall', along with Odling is likely to be related.  I'm still looking ... and hopeful.
Thanks for your help.
