hi guys,
I'm new to genealogy and and need a little help. Frank Bloomer married Mary Astley in Dudley in 1919. I'm interested to know more of the Bloomer side and wondered if anyone can offer any help. Unfortunately this is the only info i have.
thanks

Welcome to rootschat Steve. Probably the best place to start is with their marriage certificate. This will give both father's names and occupations. The marriage is here:

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

You can order online using the reference details given. The price for certificates is currently £7 but this will be going up very soon, so get in quickly.  ;)

FreeBMD is generally a good site though records are not yet complete, but it's getting there. So worth checking back regularly if you are initially unable to find who you're looking for.

Once you know the name of Frank and Mary's fathers you can look for them (possibly in a famly group with parents and siblings if your're lucky) in the 1911 census:
www.1911census.co.uk
You have to pay for credits to find out the full details though you can search for free.

Beyond that it is a matter of tracing the people back through the censuses which were taken every ten years, so 1901, 1891 and so on.

Don't hesitate to ask if you get stuck. There is a lot to learn and much of it is trial and error and just slogging away ....

Buying that cert is definitely your first step.  :)

A quick check on freeBMD reveals at least four Frank Bloomers born in Dudley that could fit the bill - one in 1894, one in 1897, and two in 1899.
Interestingly, in 1919, a Frank Bloomer was born in Dudley - mothers maiden name was Astley. It seems they liked the name Frank on that side of the family!!

Hi

I'm also searching for the parents of Frank Bloomer born about 1899.   I believe he is my husband great grandfather.  So far I have recovered the same as you. He married Mary Astley in 1919 and I believe he died in 1943 aged 44. I have found his burial records at Dudley Cemetery.   I know they had at least one child Charles T Bloomer (1921)  who married Lilian Sinclair in 1940, possibly two others. Charles died in 1973 aged 52.  I am currently waiting for charles' birth certificate to confirm all of this, however I am 90% this is correct so far.

The two other possible sons of Frank Bloomer are (*) and Frank (1919)...and interestingly I think (*) is still alive, as I cannot find a death cert!

I am stuck as there appears to be two Frank Bloomers born in the same year, and both in Old Hill!

I'm am new to this too, so any tips would be appreciated!

Jo Bloomer
