Hi tancor

You may be in luck, as the Pas de Calais archives for BDMs and censuses are online.  See here : http://www.archivespasdecalais.fr/

I've had quite a bit of success there.  If you give me some dates I'd be happy to help out.

A further thought - there's another place I've found quite useful: www.geneanet.com

It's (mostly) free and there's an English version - the free part relies on tapping into other users' online trees - if you're lucky, like I was, and somebody else has researched some of your ancestors you can find lots of information. You have to be a bit cautious about the reliability, of course.  But some people post copies of their documentary evidence and I've spent many happy hours transcribing and translating marriage certificates, etc!
