It is not unknown for persons to require beneficiaries under their wills to assume their surnames as I presume that they wish to perpetuate the use of their names especially if their line ceases on death. I refer you to the edition of the Irish Times newspaper  for 28th August 1885 in an advert. on P.7 where it is noted that Robert Crosby (son of Robert Cornwall  of 36 Rutland Square, Dublin) was now entitled to utilise   the surname of Lewis Crosby in lieu of Cornwall.
This practice was not confined to the U.K. as it seems that Field Marshall Eric Von Manstein (the eminent German tactician of WWII) utilised part of his aunt's name.

Thank you for this Quaxer.... at least I am starting to get through this brick well... very slowly though..

I will hopefully be going to look at the records for St Annes and St Andrews tomorrow so wish me luck that I can exactly find something.

Thanks

Hi,

The church you are looking for is St Thomas C.O.I on the cornor of Cathal Brugha St.

My Ancestors were married there in 1855. But in 1922 it was burned i the civil war. It was restored much later and became St Thomas and St George.

There records are kept in the City Library.

Catherine
I AM RESEARCHING THE SURNAMES BRAY CULLEN, FARRELL,KEOGH,SHERIDAN,SULLIVAN, all in the area of Dublin.
