Mecklenburg Street CoI churches
« on: Monday 08 March 10 15:04 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I have found out that Daniel Mills King lived on Mecklenburg Street in 1819... Can anyone tell me where the nearest CoI churches for this street where?

Can anyone who has very early Directories for Dublin do a lookup to see if there is any Mills Kings present there?

Thanks for helping me in advance.

The nearest CofI Church to Mecklenburg St (later named Tyrone St then Waterford St/Railway St) that I can locate is St Thomas Church, which was located towards the northern end of Marlborugh St. at the junction with Gregg's lane, and not far from the location of St. Mary's RC pro-Cathedral.

The church was destroyed in 1922 and rebuilt just off the original street on the street now named Cathal Brugha Street.

The directories for that timeframe are very limited in the information they contain (Thom's didn't start publishing until 1844), and only a small number of people were listed, and dont contain a street listing. I have a Treble Almanac/Wilson's directory for 1813 - I'll have a look from Daniel later on. Do you know a trade or profession for him ?

Is this the same Daniel Mills King in your earlier thread?  "Daniel Mills King. As far as I know he was a Doctor of Physics/Physicans in Dublin"

well remembered !

Treble Almanac/Wilson directory of 1813 lists the following in the Physicians section :

Fellows of : The Kings and Queens Collage of Physicians (incorporated by Royal Charter, December 15 1692

Dr. D. Mills King, Nassau St  (written with the old f style s)

he is one of the ten treasurers.

Thanks for this guys but the Doctor is Daniel Mills King's Father. He died in 1818. His son also Daniel Mills King was not a doctor... he died in 1869 but I am trying to determine which parish he belonged to for birth/marriage records...

I have checked every single record from Rathdrum, Booterstown and they are not in these.. so now I am looking at Dublin City... Nassau St really helps... Do we know what was the Church of Ireland church in Nassau Street?

Thanks guys, will be in there Thursday so hopefully will show up something..

Also found out why there name is double barrelled..... thought I was going to touch the sky yesterday when I found this out :-)

A Thomas King from Kingston.. Rathdrum left in his will all his stuff to Dr Daniel Mills... and at the end of the will he allowed his title/name (KING) to be used so they then became Dr Daniel Mills King..

Why would someone want to take a title?
