Langwith Colliery, Derbyshire.
« on: Monday 08 March 10 11:23 GMT (UK) »
My grandfather, Robert Arthur Cutts was killed at Langwith Colliery on 26th August 1925 - the Coroners Reports for that time no longer exist according to the Coroners Office.  Where would I find records of Langwith Colliery which closed around 1978.

Unfortunately he is not listed among the 55 miners at Langwith Colliery on the National Data Base of Mining Deaths at http://www.cmhrc.co.uk/site/home/

I think a newspaper report will be the way forward.
A report of the inquest would be I guess in either or both of the Mansfield and Chesterfield ( Derbyshire Times) newspapers.
Do you live locally? Mansfield library has the Mansfield Newspapers on film.

It might also be worth trying the Mansfield Chad.  Langwith falls between the two newspapers!

At last I have visited Mansfield Library and immediately found the report of my Grandfather, Robert Arthur Cutts' death, in the Mansfield Chronicle and Advertiser for the 3rd September 1925.  It is a full report headied 'Buried alive in the Pit - Second similar accident within a few weeks.'   There is also the report on the inquest and the verdict of accidental death.
