Needle in a haystack...PARRY / PERRY?
« on: Monday 08 March 10 02:39 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for information on my grandfather, my dads father.  I hardly have anything to go on,except a name and area where the man lived.  Not sure its going to be possible to find him.  When my grandmother was alive, she told me his name was PERCY PARRY , could be Perry though, with the accent, but more likely Parry. My nana lived in Molesey in Surrey UK.  She was only 16 at the time my dad was born, (1938). Apparetnly this Percy Parry lived not far down the street either IN Walton Rd or just off Walton Rd in a housing estate. You could see this estate from Walton Rd.  He was apparently alot older than my nana and was already married with a family of 4 daughters ??  I am wondering if anyone can access census records for that area? in around that time? my dad was born in 1938. I assume the family stayed in that area, but again.. dont know any particulars about him.  My dad never knew anything of this man except what i have written here. My dad passed away in 2003. It is my lifelong dream to find his father, and to know where i actually came from.

I would appreciate ANY help , and information anyone can find.. thankyou so much in advance. Its like a needle in a haystack for me. I live in Australia.

Through this site, i have been told there is a death record for a Percy Parry who died in 1986 aged 92 in the Kingston area. I am not sure if this could be him.
Sorry my email address is not working.

Hi

Just reading through your post and one thing struck me... if your Dad was born in 1838 then someone who died in 1896 is not likely to have been his father...

Do you have a birth certificate for your father which may, or may not, mention a father's name??

The latest Census to be released to the Public is the 1911, which won't help for someone born in 1938.  You can however check FreeBMD for UK birth, marriage and death reference numbers which will help you to order his birth certificate if you don't already have it.

Perhaps your best line of searching would be Electoral Rolls for the area and time that you need.
Cheers

my dads birth certificate  has NO fathers name, and ive made a boo boo... meant to say 1986.. not 1896. Ive fixed that up. I have looked through the BMD.. cant seem to locate much, but then im new at this, i shall keep looking. thanks Karenlee.

Ahh, that makes  more sense  ;D ;D.

Since there is no father on the birth cert, then I suppose that the best way to go is Electoral Rolls.  Maybe you should put a request up on the Surrey Board asking for someone to look up this Percy PARRY on the Rolls for the 1930's and 1940's.

Depending on his age he might also have served in WW2 so there might be a service record for him.

Cheers

The trouble with electoral rolls, don't you need an address to search them?
And don't forget of course that they didn't take them from 1939-1945 during the war.

Maybe an email to Molesey library(below) asking if they have a Kelly's directory which can be searched by name, would be a good idea?

Good luck
