mostly the same girls on the fence, different photo
« on: Monday 08 March 10 00:00 GMT (UK) »
For those who saw my earlier photo of my grandfather's sisters on the fence (Sumner, Iowa, July 1899), this is the second preliminary photo he took in the same location using some of his sisters and his father.

If anyone would like to tackle removing the fingerprint from Aunt Manda's face and doing any other clean up work that you feel inspired to do, I would love to see what you come up with.  I am very grateful for any interest.

Kind regards,
Barbara

Hi  :)

One from me. I've put some texture into it to hide the pixels. Otherwise, I would have to use a blur/smoothing filter and it will take away some of the detail in the faces, etc..   Although it was showing 300 dpi, I think it must have been very heavily compressed because even at only 200%, it shows big squares and blobs  :-\

Added - Is there any chance of rescanning and saving  without any jpg compression, please?

Caz, Gadget and Bill,
Thanks so much for your restorations.  You've each brough the photo to life in a different way.  I was particularly blown away by Bill's colorized version because it made the people in the photo seem 'alive' in a way that they hadn't, especially the father.  All those girls I knew when they were older women, so it was interesting to see them as they might have been between the ages of 8 to 15.

I apologize for the muddy scan and the blobby pixels. I will try to rescan when I get sorted out her and can unearth the box in which those photos are stored.

In the meantime, I'll post here Grandpa's 'final' version for you to take a look at. He was much more careful with it -- he had to be after his sisters and one brother had go to all the trouble to 'dress up' for the big event.

Thanks, Bill, for taking the time to color them.  Interesting to see how one's perceptions change when colors are added.
