Hello AmeliandElsie,
many thanks for your message, it is most welcome.
Our Bateman Family research is ongoing and therefore it would be kind of you to add to the history.
In 1940+ Alan D Kirkby as a small boy had been evacuated from S E London and placed in the care of the Bateman's at the Mill. He was looked after on a day to day basis by their daughter Margaret (Maggie). He returned to his family home after the end of WW2 1945.
He had attended Spittal village school.
His siblings, sister Olive and brother Edwin David) were also billeted with local families. Their mother, Alice Kirkby had worked at the Royal Naval Depot, Trecwn, nr Fishguard.
I shall look forward to your reply.
