Hi Mike

I have found a christening record for a Walter Henry Lewis, who's parents were Walter Lewis & Phoebe (no maiden name) on the 6 November 1891 in Elstead, Kingston upon Thames.

Is this him?

Lorraine
Hi Lorraine
Thats him!
Thats the first breakthrough I've had on the Lewis family
Where did you find the christening info?
Also if you have an image could you send it to me at (*), thanks.

regards
Mike

Hi Mike

Unfortunately Phoebe is one that I have no further info on  :o

I have a lot of the Hedges family on my tree but no Phoebe. I also have no record of any Lewis's.

Do you know who's parents Margaret Matthews has. My Granny Patricia Martha Matthews was born in Epson in 1877 might be a connection there, though Granny was born on race day !!

I will do a bit of research on Phoebe and see what I come up with

Lorraine
Hi again,
Family folklore said that Phoebe was a Hedges.
I believe that Phoebe could well be a Mathews, the daughter of James & Fambridge.

I don't know who Margaret Matthews parents were, I'll also look to see if I can dig a bit deeper!

regards

Mike

Hi Mike

I have sent you a link to the record of Walter Lewis.

The Matthews and Hedges travelled alot together so its no surprise you have this confusion  ::)

My friend (and 4th cousin), Shelley is a descendant of Famebridge & Jemmy (James) via Phoebe's sister Matilda, I will see what she knows.

This post seems to cut across my family history, but there are some unresolved ends.....my great grandfather Alfie Matthews (born c1870) always claimed to come from Woking Surrey. His father was Walter Matthews (born c  1835) who was married to Familo/Phamal Matthews. I know they were travelling folk in the Kent/Surrey/Sussex area, but does anyone know how they fit into any other families. Is Walter the same character as is sometimes called 'James'? I have a Battle birthplace for Familo, rather than Yorkshire
