John Woodward Weaverham
« on: Wednesday 03 March 10 14:47 GMT (UK) »
Hello

I am new on here, and just wondered if anyone had any information on the above person.

He was the father of my 2 x Great Grandfather Samuel Woodward who was born in Weaverham Northwich in 1826.

On Samuels marriage certificate it states that John was a farmer.

I am looking for a marriage of John to a Sarah sometime between 1815 and 1825. I have found a birth for him in 1797 and a possible death in 1833 but am struggling with the marriage. I am in Dorset so cannot get to the archives easily.

If anyone can help I would be grateful

Many thankss

Hi Forgetful,

I have some Woodward transcripts from St Mary's Weaverham, unfortunately the baptisms I took are not as early as 1797, as my Woodwards came into the village just a few years after this.

But, I have a burial that might fit
John WOODWARD of Castle 23 DEC 1833 a36y
a John & Sarah Woodward of Castle were having children baptised at Weaverham from 1820.

I have a baptism c.1826 for Samuel
24 DEC 1826. Samuel, son of John & Sarah WOODWARD of Northwich, Laborer.

There is a grave at Weaverham in the old part of the yard that contains
John Woodward of Castle d.11/12 1833 a36y (discrepancy with the burial date)
Sarah Woodward of Castle d.14/2/1838 a38y
John Woodward of Weaverham (son) d.22/6/1871 a42y
M.I.
17: Sacred to the memory of JOHN WOODWARD who died December 11 1833 aged 36
years   SARAH wife of JOHN WOODWARD of Castle Northwich who died 14 February
1838 aged 38 years  Also JOHN son of the above who died 22 June 1871 aged 32
years.

Could this be your family?

Hello Odessa

Many thanks that does look like the right family.

My John was married to a Sarah and the baptism of Samuel you found is the one I found online... he is my Great Great Grandfather.

I think the grave you found is my John and Sarah, if John died in 1833 aged 36 (I have that burial but not the grave details) then that fits with the baptism I have of  a John born 1797 to a Samuel and Margaret and as John and Sarahs children are John, Samuel, Margaret  Mary and John I think  I am on the right track so to speak.

Thanks again for your help, it is harder when you are miles away from your roots.

Hello again Odessa

thanks so much  again for your reply and the information... that has helped a lot. The dates you found on the graves  for the deaths of Samuel and Margaret match the info for their burials I had and  yes they are the parents of John. But the other information  regarding the deaths of their children I did not have at all so that gives me something else to go on.

Best wishes
