Can anyone in Southampton help??
« on: Tuesday 02 March 10 12:35 GMT (UK) »
My husbands grandfather took his own life in Southampton in 1947.  The death certificate states that there was an inquest, but after having contacted the coroners office in Southampton I was told that they did not have records back that far.  My request is, would there be anyone in the Southampton area who could check the archives of what would have been the Evening Echo at that time to see if there is any report of the death / inquest mentioned.  The date of death was 13.08.47, inquest 15.08.47.  His name was William George Allen.

Many thanks for any information.

Yes,  you should contact Southampton City Archives:

http://www.southampton.gov.uk/s-leisure/artsheritage/history/archives/

or the reference library:

I note that you have registered an interest in the surname Cotton.  Have you contacted Ross Cotton who is the Guild of One Name Studies member specialising in the Cotton/Cotten surnames?  He has done quite a lot of research of Cottons of Isle of Wight and Hampshire, plus many other areas, so you can ask him if he has any of your Cottons.  His website is here:
