Thank you kindly, Judith.

I have the Death details and am going to order his death cert in the hopes of next of kin are documented.

He would've been a hard ridden 43 when arriving in NSW in 1873 having been freed in WA in 1857, he may well have married in his 16 years of freedom in WA.

Hoping he'll show up on a census somewhere  ???

Thank you very much for your reply  'seyshell'

I was fortunate enough to find  that 'Ramillies' passenger list earlier today. What an wonderful insight it is!

I followed Clegg from that list to the Fremantle prison site, which lists all convicts received there.

It is from there that I saw he was released in 1857 (allowed to work for himself) and given his ticket of leave in 1859.

He left WA for NSW in 1873.

No kidding Trish....you've been a sensation in this whole Owen Clegg drama! One minute I have him as living at home aged 24 in Yorkshire,England and  a year later he is transported to Australia and we are lucky enough to

a) Find his details on the ship 'Ramillies'
b) Find his prison record for Fremantle prison, giving release date and NSW clue.
c) Find his death in NSW 1896

Thank you Annie, I did NOT know that.

That is a wonderful lead indeed!

I am staggered by the ingenuity of some of your folks when it comes to getting answers.

Thank you again, Annie!

edit: i just registered and searched and it gives me his date of passing too (29th August 1896).....excellent!......
