Saw the Leeds Arms listed so-

The Leeds Mercury, Saturday October 1892
ALLEGED CORROSIVE FLUID THROWING AT SCARBOROUGH

At Scarborough Police Courts on Wednesday Elisabeth Smith (49) widow, who is on remand until Monday on a charge of having  thrown corrosive fluid over John Carr, landlord of the Leeds Arms public house, Scarborough, whose housekeeper she had been, was brought before the Court in order to give her advocate (Mr W R Appleyard Solicitor) an opportunity of appealing to their worships for the release of the accused on bail. After the testimony of Dr Scarth had been received as to Carr's condition, the application was refused.
(see if I can dig anything further)

Liked the following - The Aberdeen Journal, Wednesday December 12, 1810

At a sale at The Lamb public house, Scarborough on Wednesday evening last, in a room above the cellar, the Auctioneer had got as far as he thought he could in the price of an article, and repeating the usual words 'Going, going, gone....' the floor of the room gave way and the Auctioneer, his Clerk and a number of the company were instantly precipitated into the cellar below. Fortunately the casks checked in some measure the violence of their fall, and no one was hurt.

re: Last two posts - many thanks for the help and advice. I wonder whereabouts in town the Lamb pub was?

Rummers,

The Leeds Mercury Aug 27 1869
BREWSTER SESSIONS

SCARBRO' - The first brewster sessions for the licensing of public-houses since the passing of the new Act took place yesterday. The fact that only four renewals were refused speaks well for the general good order of the public-houses of Scarborough, 108 of which are licensed to sell spirits. The increased watchfulness of the magistracy over the drinking system was shown by their refusal to grant any new licences, none of the fresh applications being entertained.

108 selling spirits + beer only houses (no. not stated) and still receiving fresh applications. Bit different to today's disappearing pubs.

regards
ps trust the figure of 108 was not a typesetter's error?
